Put your yawns away and get out your kitty mugs! The Maple Meow is exactly what you need when you want a breakfast-y coffee that will leave you purrrring! This is what I also call the pancake coffee - it tastes like a delicious stack of pancakes! And you don’t need much to make this breakfast drink but you will impress the paws off of any guests that you serve this to!
The main ingredient for this drink is Rad Cat Coffee Co.’s Caturday Morning Blend. It is hyper caffeinated and super delicious! Just the kind of caffeination and tastiness we all need first thing in the morning!
The next most important ingredient is pancake syrup - the cheaper the better! All I had on hand is this fancy maple syrup which is better for your health but I have found the cheaper pancake syrups have an artificial maple flavor that tastes more pancakey. This is one of the few times I would recommend not going with the healthier version and it is strictly for taste.
Next, you need your preferred milk - mine is either half and half or oat milk. Oatly oatmilk is supppper creamy! It is perfect for this kind of coffee beverage.
Whipped cream is almost always preferred with some maple syrup drizzle. Yummmm!
Now, get those paws ready and let’s begin!
First, prepare your coffee. I used a french press but you can use any coffee making device.
For a french press, either buy your Caturday Morning Blend with a coarse grind or grind it yourself coarsely but as evenly as possible. A typical sized french press makes four cups of coffee. So for mine I used four cups of water and 1/2 a cup coffee beans. Add a little extra coffee for a bolder flavor.
First, grind your coffee and add it to the bottom of the french press.
Next, bring your water to a boil. I use a kettle but a good ole’ pot will work. Once it boils, turn off the kettle (or remove the pot from the burner) and let it rest for one minute. This will stop you from scorching your coffee.
After it has rested add the water to your french press.
Next, stir the coffee and the water really well. Make sure there are no air pockets in the bottom.
Put the top on and let the coffee steep for four minutes.
While the coffee is steeping, put one to two tablespoons of maple syrup in the bottom of your kitty mug (mine was painted by professional artist, Hubert Neal, Jr.). Use two tablespoons of syrup if you like your coffee sweeter.
Once the coffee is ready, pour it into your cup. I personally use a strainer because sometimes the top piece lets some grounds through. It is rare but it is nice to strain it when it happens.
Leave some room for milk (or half and half) and whipped cream!
Add your milk (or half and half) and stir up the mixture really well so the syrup mixes with the coffee and milk completely.
Add the whipped cream.
Then, drizzle the syrup across the whipped cream and drink it up!
