Phat Cat Dirty Chai | Rad Cat Coffee Co.

August 14, 2020

Fall is upon us and one of the best fall drinks is a dirty chai! The “dirty” part is usually espresso. In this recipe, I used brewed coffee. This drink made with the Phat Cat Bold Blend is AMAZING! Even your cat will be jealous!

Start by brewing some delicious Phat Cat Bold Blend. I used a french press, but you can use any coffee making device.

For a french press, either buy your Phat Cat Bold Blend coarsely ground or grind it yourself coarsely but as evenly as possible. A typical sized french press makes four cups of coffee. So for mine I used four cups of water and 1/2 a cup coffee beans. Add a little extra coffee for a bolder flavor. Grind your coffee (or get your pre-ground coffee ready) and add it to the bottom of the french press.

Next, bring your water to a boil. I use a kettle but a pot on a stove will work. Once it boils, turn off the kettle (or remove the pot from the burner) and let it rest for one minute. This will stop you from scorching your coffee. Then, add the water to your french press.

Next, stir the coffee and the water really well. Make sure there are no air pockets in the bottom.

Put the top on and let the coffee steep for four minutes.

While the coffee is steeping, prepare the rest of your drink. I used Oregon Chai mix. There are a few variations of this. I bought the lightly sweet version because I prefer less sugar. If you like sweeter coffee drinks buy the sweetened version. Also, all chais are not the same. There are chai powders, chai tea bags, etc. I have just experimented over the years to find ones that I like the most. The Oregon Chai mix pictured is really tasty in my opinion. It has a mild flavor that doesn’t overpower the coffee. The chai powders tend to be sweeter in my opinion and really tasty too.

For the Oregon Chai mix, mix the chai with equal parts milk.

Put one cup of chai and one cup of milk into a saucepan to warm it up. This is enough for two servings - it is SO tasty you will want two servings! I did anyway. :)

Let the chai and milk mixture simmer and stir constantly.

Once it is ready, take if off of the burner and strain the french press coffee once the time is up. A strainer is not 100% necessary but I use a manual grinder so sometimes not all of the grounds are coarse and some come through the french press strainer.

Pour half coffee, half chai-milk mixture straight into your adorable cat mug. Mine is painted by artist Hubert Neal, Jr.

Then, mix the coffee and chai-milk mixture really well.
